A New Adventure

It's been a while. A lot has happened in the last 3 months. We have moved from our home in Boston, to a new home in Dayton, OH. Jonah turned 18 months, started walking and started talking all the time! Mike and I started new jobs, meeting new people, learning new lessons. And we have reconnected with family and old friends.

And....WE BOUGHT A HOUSE! God's gifts are so good. We were able to purchase a house that seems as though it was made for us. We love it! We love the layout and the land we got with it. We are so thankful for the many blessings that we have been given. Pictures will be posted soon. But for now I'll catch you up on the last couple months...

So much fun, so many laughs, such a wonderful reminder of how wonderful it is to have friends that have known you for a lifetime! Seven Mile Road

While at church this morning the thought struck me that we only have 5 more Sundays to worship with 7 Mile Roaders. It's hard to believe that in a little over a month this chapter of our lives will be over. As I looked around the room I realized that I knew the name of most of the people there, I knew most of their stories, and I couldn't imagine a Sunday morning without their faces. But, let me back up and fill you in on our 7 Mile Story.

Three years ago, Mike was assigned a desk sitting next to a teacher named Sergio Mazza. They got to talking and he found out that we were new to the area and born-again Christians, and he invited us to his church. That was the beginning of the end of our search for a godly church to attend. God always provides. And he has provided abundantly above and beyond for us through this church. Our best friends have come out of this place. The people who have walked beside us, prayed for us, encouraged and corrected us, and loved on us have come from this place. Friendships have blossomed and matured into something more than surface relationships. There are just no words to express how thankful we are for the family of 7 Mile Road. We will always look back on this time as being so sweet. We will miss you, we will keep praying for the work you are doing, and we will always thank God for you.

Sweet Days of Summer

Those of you who know Jonah, know that one of his bestest friend is Emily Catherine. These two "play" together, share hugs, and often kisses and think each other are hilarious. This sweet little girl is such a blessing. Her joyful exuberance for life and her curiosity is so funny! She talks from the minute she comes over till she drives away in the car. We love you Emmy!
Summer is almost here, and with it came the first steamy day of the season. Jess, Christine and I piled the kids in the cars and headed to Crane Beach. What a perfect day. Jonah ate more than his share of sand, and although the water was soooo cold- he cried when I removed his shivering body from the surf:) He is indeed a water boy, just like his Daddy. Can't wait to head back soon!

The Promised Land

I've been thinking about writing this post for about 6 months now. I had lots of titles in mind: "No longer in Exile", "Our wandering has ended," or "We're coming Home." But, I've realized that those titles don't really express what I'm feeling. After praying intensely and seeking the will of God for several months, we both arrived at a "peace that passes understanding" and we have decided to move to Dayton, OH! We struggled and questioned and fought this decision. We struggled because we wanted it so badly and yet we unexpectedly wanted to stay in Boston, we questioned it because we wanted to make sure this was what God wanted us to do, we fought it because, well, Boston has become our home. Three years ago, Mike interviewed for a position at a charter school here in Boston. I thought he was crazy, I told God I wouldn't go- but then the peace came and the Father said ,"go, it's ok, I am going before you and preparing the way." And prepare He did. He gave us a home, gave me a job, gave us the blessing of a church that became our family. We have gone through a lot of change while being in Boston. We were prepared for it to be difficult, hard and at times miserable to be away from family. With every birthday and family celebration, Mike can testify, my heart broke. I missed seeing my nieces and nephews grow up. But, we still felt a peace year after year about living in Boston.
It's amazing how God provides. He gave us a soul care community that came around us and filled in the gaps. And he provided some of the best friends I've ever had. Friends that love my child like family, friends that have been willing to support us and lovingly correct us, and encourage us to seek after our Saviour. How could we leave- why would we leave?!
Well, we had a little man cub last year, it's all very easy when there is just two of you:) Easy to deal with the sadness, easy to deal with the hurt. But, when we went home for Christmas this year, our hearts broke as we got on the plane. I cried the whole way home to Boston. I cried after we got home, I cried the next three months. Not constantly, of course, but you catch my drift:) And we realized that God has started to change the desires of our hearts, and had started to provide a way for big changes to happen. Mike started to apply to schools, to some other positions, and then he said, "I'm gonna apply to DC." I was thinking great, no way that's ever going to happen! But, it did. Many conversations later, many long nights and many prayers- Mike was offered a position at Dayton Christian High School. After long, grueling hours praying, and seeking God's will, and praying some more and then not wanting to have to make tough decisions- we decided. We are moving to Dayton. We are moving with joyful hearts, excited, thrilled, scared, thankful and willing for God to do a work in our hearts. But, we are also moving with bittersweet, heavy hearts and a great deal of sadness, and many tears. Because contrary to what I expected, this liberal state has become our home. We have grown up in Boston. We have become a family of three, and our marriage has become stronger. We have been challenged, corrected, loved and have been able to show God's love to those that aren't His children. We are leaving behind friends that have walked with us through thick and thin. But, thankfully, we are leaving knowing that God has paved the road ahead in Dayton, just like he did in Boston. And in that we rest.
We can't wait for what the future holds, but in this we can be sure:
"..that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Phillipians 1:6

Mike, Jonah and I enjoyed a delightful week in Washington DC. Soaking up relaxation and some family time. I am particularly excited about Spring being here. About the weather changing and the warmer days to be enjoyed at the park, long walks around the lake and keeping our windows open all day.
Easter came late this year, and with so much to celebrate. God has reminded Mike and I, in this season of life, that He is faithful and that His promises are for real and that He is worthy to be praised. We are thankful this Easter for his goodness to us, for His amazing sacrifice of Love, and are striving to live everyday in the shadow of the cross while joying in the truth of His resurrection! He is risen, indeed!

God's Gift

We weren't expecting this sweet gift, but we got it anyway. Aren't those the best kind of blessings? In 2009 we were surprised to find out that we were expecting a sweet little baby. in November, while crouched around a small monitor, we saw that it was a little boy, Jonah Michael. And in March, a couple weeks early, he couldn't wait anymore and he made his appearance in the wee hours of the morning on March 18th, 2010. We chose the name Jonah after Mike had read that book in the Bible. We loved how Jonah's story will model his namesake- a man, running from God, but God in his mercy takes him back. Isn't that our story too? One year has passed, we have walked the floors with him at night, snuggled with him during naps, watched him learn how to roll over, pull up on things, and listened to the melodic sound of his voice bursting with laughter at absolutely everything. He is a joy. He is so sweet. And he is teaching us what it means to be self-less.

We were ready and willing to give our lives to this little guy, willing to do anything for him. We just fell in love with his sweet face and all his smiles. But, what I wasn't ready for is how quickly and easily he would point out my selfish tendencies, my stubbornness. God brings great gifts to his children, and along with this sweet package came gifts of a different kind. The gift of patience, which is an ongoing lesson. The gift of indescribable joy, and the gift of being a mother. I have realized that I am not guaranteed any of those things, and that God in His goodness has decided to bless me with them. So they are a treasure.

Jonah Michael,

Your sweet smile has captured our hearts, we love to hear you say our names and laugh at our every movement. We love the joy that you have, and the appetite for life that increases everyday. We can't believe that God has given you to us, and we pray everyday that He claims your heart for His own. You have reached many milestones this year, steady and slow, not in a hurry to prove anything. And you have taught your Momma that that is how God works in us sometimes. You are growing my patience and you are a daily reminder that God blesses us with so much daily joy. What a wonderful Saviour we have. I love you more than tongue can tell, I am so proud of your first year, I am so blessed by your life.

A weekend of Birthdays

It's March! When did that happen? March is fabulous month, because there are many birthdays- one of which is Jonah's! But, we will get to him later.
My sweet sis and cousin flew up for 48 hours to celebrate Jonah's first birthday with us, and along with Jo's big day we decided to celebrate Rachel's birthday a little early with a day of surprises:) On Friday, we started out the morning with a red envelope detailing the first surprise: We toured America's Test Kitchen. For those of you who aren't familiar with this television show, it's an amazing blend of science and deliciousness and it is just totally cool:) Upon the return to the car from the tour, she got her next clue: destination: The Union Oyster House! We took the birthday girl to do one of Mike's favorite things- slurp raw seafood. I have never seen anybody enjoy raw seafood as much as Rach:) My Dad also slurped a couple for the first time. We rounded out our trip to the city with a stop at Mike's for some pastries and headed home to a Lobster Bake! We sealed the evening with a huge lobster bake in honor of Rach's birth- and then sang to her with cupcakes dotted with candles. What a perfect day. What a perfect girl to celebrate:)

We had a great visit with Mom and Becca over the last week! Mom flew in on Wednesday and Becca came late Saturday night! What a blessing it is to have family who want to spend time with us and shower our little man with lots of love!
There was cannoli, card games, and lots of snuggles with Jonah:) Can't wait for our next visit!

A year Ago...

This Saturday, one year ago three friends came all the way from Ohio to pack up a very preggo Momma and Daddy and move them into a new house. While there isn't anyway we could possible repay or thank them enough, I thought I would just mention how thankful we are that God has blessed us with Jeff, Joey and Jenny. On Friday night they sent me to bed and proceeded to pack up my entire house, then spent the next week moving Mike and I into our new abode. The boys even helped Mike put the crib together for Jonah! Which turned out to be great, because he came two weeks later.

Learning to Be Still...

I am on Day 3 of the MYM challenge (check it out here)and what a difference it has already made. As someone who has never been quite as consistent as I'd like with my quiet time, I was eager to start this challenge. And it hasn't disappointed. Knowing I am rising early, far too early in my opinion:), with other women who desire to know their Saviour more fully every morning is inspiring and encouraging. Saying #hellomornings on twitter is strangely exciting, and has given me the little push I need to get out of bed, make Mike breakfast and lunch and then settle on the couch for some time alone with God before Jonah boy says hello morning!
Today, I woke up annoyed that Mike didn't get a snow day, and not ready to fall out of bed and get into step with the day, but I got up- brushed my teeth and reached for the coffee. A song popped into my head, and played on repeat, until I was unaware that I was actually humming it, because I couldn't remember all the words. It was Be Still and know the He is God, by Stephen Curtis Chapman. I tried putting off my quiet time, but with Jonah going down for a nap, and knowing I should read now- I jumped in. I am reading through the Book: Praying the Names of God, by Ann Spangler and this week is focusing on El Roi, the God who sees me. Today we were praying, thanking God for being our help- and the verse in Psalms 46:1 came to mind: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble." So, I decided to read the whole chapter. And what do you know, verse 10 says: "He says, be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Amen.
I am thankful that I serve a God willing to meet my needs, physical, mental, emotional. That He sees the condition of my heart and the pain that I feel and He is willing to be faithful to heal me, regardless of how faithful I am.

Inspired and Challenged, Maximize Your Mornings!

It happens to all of us at some point. Do I sleep in, or do I get up? Then you start, what I call, the justification process.

"I deserve to sleep in, I work hard."

"My child is still asleep, so this is God's way of telling me- rest, sleep in."

"Just five more minutes." Until 37 minutes passes, and then you set your alarm for "5" more minutes again.

But, this is were excuses stop, and productivity begins. I joined the Maximize Your Mornings challenge at Inspired to Action! And better yet, I called out my sis-in-law, Rachel, to do this challenge with me!

What this challenge will do is teach us how to get all the juice out of our mornings, and set aside some much needed time to plan the day, drink coffee, and most importantly- focus on spending time with our Saviour. It's a well-known fault of mine to put my quiet time off all day until I am too tired to do it at night. So, I am kicking the old habit and embracing my alarm clock! 530am, here I come!

Well, I've decided I should get back into blogging. My man has told me I should be blogging my thoughts because he thinks they are interesting. Little does he know that as soon as I voice them, I usually forget what I have said! But, I appreciated the encouragement. Now that I am back into the swing of things, post-Christmas, I have started this new year with a new attitude towards life, a genuine commitment to spending daily quiet time with my Saviour and a renewed effort to keep a tidy home. Kelly Christmas was on Sunday afternoon. Right before Mo and Ed had to
hop on a plane at 5pm to go see the Hollands! As you can see, Jonah
bonded with Uncle Eddie, I'm pretty sure this means he will be jumping
in the pool this summer;)
Later that evening, we headed to the Hamilton's and Jason dedicated
Jonah, which really means Mike and I got dedicated! It was such a
blessing, totally undeserved. We are so thankful that we got to do
this with both families! God is so good.

Mike, Jonah and I had a wonderful Christmas break. We got to spend
some much needed time with both sides of our families. The trip
started off running, Christmas Eve with the Reno's and then Christmas
Day with the Hamilton's. We are so thankful for the precious time we
got to spend with them.

All I Want for Christmas....

It's amazing how all of a sudden you feel like a grown-up. Mike and I were commenting to each other after having dinner with some friends that we feel, for the first time in our lives, that we are grown-up. Strangely enough, this realization did not naturally happen after getting married, or even after moving 13 hours from family and friends. Nor did it come after giving birth to our son. No, we felt like we had 'finally arrived' after having an annual Christmas dinner with Dave and Cari Durfee- when we realized that the exchange of gifts was an after thought of the evening and that the time we shared with them was so precious. Mike and I have always placed great importance on spending quality time with people. And we hope that is something that we can pass on to Jonah. But for some reason,the combination of family being so far away, and having Jonah, we were moved to tears at the grace that God has bestowed upon us this year. All His many blessings, the greatest of which is still His gift of salvation, have made us feel all grown-up. Now, don't get me wrong, we are very much looking forward to seeing Reagan and Gideon and Abby and Caleb and Gabey open up Christmas presents, we are excited about seeing Family and Friends, about singing carols with tone-deaf family members (The 12 days of Christmas anyone?), and eating until we pop, but this year we are incredibly aware of all that we have to be thankful for in spite of the pain of living away from family. So, without much ado- here is my Top Ten Christmas Countdown!

#10. Getting off the plane in Dayton and being greeted by my favorite faces. It never fails, as soon as I see the patchwork layout of Ohio from the plane, my eyes tear up and I cry from that moment until I am embraced by my Mom, Daddy and Sister.

#9. Arriving to the Hamilton's on Christmas Morning with Jonah Boy, and seeing his face when he finally gets to see Grammy's tree. And then heading straight for the Coffee Pot (Mike and I, not Jonah)! I love the traditions, the coffee, the breakfast, and especially Advent. Love hearing my Father-in-law read the Christmas Story. This also brings me to tears.

#8. Watching My Daddy open his stocking on Christmas Eve. This always makes it onto my list, every year.

#7. Getting to relax at my sister's house. Getting to enjoy her company, in her home, with her hospitality.

#6. Clifton Mills with the Ham Fam. I love being with everyone, freezing, teeth chattering and yet the joy on Bubba's face is priceless.

#5. Being able to celebrate my 4th Christmas as Mrs. Hamilton! I love being married to such a God Fearing, fun loving man. And I thank God for this particular blessing!

Mike and I decided to make a list of 16 Christmas movies to watch before the Holiday actually gets here. Ok, I decided that Mike and I were going to watch Christmas movies and he very kindly went along with the idea:) I started out trying for 25, but they don't make that many watch-worthy Christmas themed movies! so, we settled for 16:)

I just dropped my sis off at the airport. It's always bittersweet
leaving family at the airport, knowing that if they don't go home, our
next visit won't come but if they do leave, you have to wait until the
next visit. It's particularly hard to leave my sister at the airport.
We have such a good time with her. I am so thankful that Mike and
Jenny get along, and Jonah absolutely adores her. They were pretty
much inseperable the entire visit.
Love you Jenn! Thank-you for spending 4 days with us! We miss you already:)

Jenny's Visit Day 1- Harvard

After a relaxing morning at home with the 4 of us, we took a trip to Harvard!
Jonah boy got a bath from Aunt Jenny and he thought it was very
funny:) He is also very round! Then we packed in the car and
traveled to a new site!

Mrs. Julia Child lived in Cambridge, so we decided to make a
"pilgrimage" of sorts to her home. The current residents don't eat
meat- they are vegetarians. I think Mrs. Child is rolling over in her
grave.....

Finally we have a family picture! Even though Jonah is thinking hard about something!

We are so blessed to have parents who love us and are willing to
travel to spend time with us! We just said goodbye to Mom and the
Colonel last week, after a great time with them. We spent a lot of
time at home, and I think they got a good idea of what our life in
Boston is like. They went to church with us on Sunday and then got to
attend our Soul Care group on Tuesday night. It was so much fun
seeing Jonah interact with them. he loves all the attention and the
one on one time with them. I think that's why he has been a little
out of sorts this week! He's wondering where Grammy and Pops went!
One of my favorite moments of the week was going to the Public Gardens
and seeing Mike, Pops and Jonah at the Make Way For Ducklings statues.
Three Generations! Loved it!

Can't wait for our next sweet time together. Love you both, thanks
for all the house improvements you did for us and Mom, THANK-YOU for
ironing Mike's shirts:) You spoiled us!

Trip to New York City in July, didn't know it yet, but we were expecting:)

Labor Day Weekend, 2 months preggo. I'm working hard to stick that little bump out!

What a wonderful week! Mike is on Spring Break this week, and we love having him home! It's great to wake up and spend a leisurely morning watching the Today Show or a movie. And to have an extra pair of hands with Jonah boy!

This morning we are trying a new egg casserole for brunch and finishing our latest movie, The Great Escape! Who knows what the day will hold, maybe some fishing!

Mike is leaving me this weekend to fly home to Dayton to watch Becca in her Senior performance of Romeo and Juliet. She is playing Lady Capulet. Wish Jonah and I could see it for ourselves, but alas we will just have to rely on Mike's interpretation!

A Baby Story...

Almost 4 weeks ago Mike and I decided it would be a great morning to have a baby.

Just kidding, we had nothing to do with the timing, and we were absolutely stunned when my water broke 2 1/2 weeks early! But, let me back things up so that you know how amazing our risen Lord is and how much He loves to give very good gifts to His children.

For about 2 1/2 years, Mike and I have been driving our Ford Focus stick shift. It's a fabulous car, that has given us a lot of great miles and until recently, we haven't had to do anything more than general maintenance on it. Well, about 2 months ago we lost the use of our tail lights, and then the door dinger thing started going off when you close the door, instead of when you open it, and then the Ford dealership told us that we needed a new fuse box. No problem, we thought, until we found out that a fuse box for a 2000 Ford Focus isn't made anymore. So, we started thinking that maybe, in a few months we might need to start thinking about a new (used) car. Then the beginning of March hit, we moved from Saugus to Malden, had a house full of the Brotherhood, and after we dropped Jeffy off at the airport we felt pretty good about being on the downhill slope to having a baby! However, over that weekend, it became very apparent to us that we needed a new car since all our brake/tail lights were gone on the Focus, and we had developed a strange noise in the back right tire region. So, we started to look around.

We decided to look for a mini van (which is a whole different post, for a different time), so we added that to our to do list, thinking we had plenty of time before Jonah arrived. Keep in mind that Mike is incredibly busy with school, his 9 month preggo wife, church commitments and a house to unpack. So, on Monday when his school flooded, and they were forced to close at 10am, sending Mike home early and then closing school the next day as well, it was an amazing blessing! Because this enabled him to be able to find a van, research it, and then go to Arlington to check it out. The next day was Wednesday. We had a half day at school, for Professional Development, and I headed home to rest, while Mike went to the Moose Lodge for some Professional Developing. He came home after making a quick run to the Mechanic with the van, just to get it checked out, and then the 2 of us took the van back and offered a price, and by God's grace the man agreed to sell it to us for a great price! The only hitch was, he couldn't find the title to sign it over to us, so we shook hands and said we would talk tomorrow.

Well, little did we know that 3 hours later, I would be in labor! Mike and I ordered a pizza with mushrooms and cheese for dinner, ate and relaxed then I decided to nap between 9 and 10 pm, because we were picking my Mom up at 1030pm. Around 9:40 pm, my sis called and we chatted for a few minutes. While talking to her, I felt a funny "tearing" sensation in my belly, chalking it up to a contraction, I didn't think anything of it. Until I hung up the phone and stood up! Then, I thought I had peed my pants! I ran to the bathroom and figured out what had happened! My water broke, and it was 2 1/2 weeks early! How could this happen!

Mike tried to chalk it up to me just loosing a lot of mucus, over and over again:) Exactly 5 minutes after my water broke, my Mom called and told us she had landed in Boston! Talk about God's timing being perfect!

Well, I quickly packed a bag for the hospital, since I thought I had a couple weeks left, I hadn't packed one yet! And then we jumped into the car and drove the 15 minutes to pick up my Mom. All the while the contractions were 5-7 minutes apart. After we picked Mom up we paged the doctor, and while we waited for her to call us back, I of course, took a shower, shaved my legs, and washed my hair. It is now about 12:15 am.

We headed to the hospital, and they confirmed what we had guessed. I was in labor. Holy Cow! How did this happen? They checked my cervix and said I was 3 cm dilated. After all the paperwork was completed, and the IV started, they decided I could get the epidural. Which I readily accepted! And, after the epidural was placed they rechecked me and I was 7 cm! Wow! This was going fast, the time is now 2 am. And I was feeling good, no pain, but I could still move my legs and feel them! They told me to try and rest and they would check me in an hour. Around 3 am my OB/GYN came in and checked me, she said I was complete! They let me labor down for an hour and said to tell them if I was feeling a lot of pressure. Well, around 4 am, I decided I thought I felt some pressure so the nurse came in and we started pushing. The last 15 minutes of pushing was the worst. Our little guy decided to present sunny side up, which means his face was looking up instead of to the side. This presented some problems, hence the hard pushing. But, a little over an hour later, at 5:26am, Jonah Michael Hamilton was born!

All in all, everything was great. I wouldn't change a thing. We are so thankful that God's timing is perfect, and that He delights in giving such wonderful gifts to His children.

Right before we left for the hospital! What a crazy night. Although he came 2 1/2 weeks early, and we were totally unprepared for that night, God's timing is always perfect. And we continue to thank Him for a safe, and uncomplicated delivery. And a healthy, beautiful baby boy!

We are moved! This past Saturday, Mike and a dozen of our dear friends, loaded a moving truck and sent us packing from Saugus, to Malden. In only a matter of hours, we were loaded and unloaded at the new abode! Amazingly enough! What a huge weight off our shoulders to be in the new place, and able to set up house before Jonah decides to get here. There will be more pics to follow, but the most important room of all has a little update below- they aren't the best quality, but it will give you an idea:)

Moving Day

What does 3 grown men, halo, and some very funny stories have in common? Why Joey, Jeffy and Jenny must be in Boston!! Our dear friends came all the way from Boston to help us move and celebrate the last few weeks of our life without a newborn! And let me tell you, nobody is as crazy or wild as these 3:) We thank God for their willingness to share in this time with us, and work while they are on vacation!

As I was packing upstairs last night, everyone else was downstairs stuffing things into various boxes, and I caught myself giggling at what I heard. It was like a non-stop stream of laughing, when one person stopped another one started. And it went on like that until well after I went to bed! Nothing like the sound of good friends and Laughter.

Mike and Grant are almost finished painting Jonah's room this afternoon! We absolutely love the blue with the chocolate brown! Can't wait to get the crib set up and get all moved in!

I love Saturdays. They are by far my favorite day of the week. Aside from the obvious day off work, you get to sleep in on Saturday mornings, turn off all alarms and enjoy waking up slowly instead of the abrupt weekday waking. Then you get to stay in your PJ's for a couple hours while pancakes are made and syrup heats up. Sitting on the couch, you flip on any number of things, The West Wing, Dirty Jobs, possibly the Olympic Games and enjoy watching something while drinking coffee and indulging in a weekend treat.

There is no hurry to get dressed, so you shower at your leisure. On this particular Saturday, we decided to go out and about. I was feeling incredibly rested, and Mike was feeling energized, so we stopped at the bank, and CVS. I should point out that are bill at CVS was $30, and we only paid $2.69, thank-you coupons and Extra Care Bucks:) Then we headed to Panera, mostly because Jenny stopped at Panera this morning, and we must be like her- so we had a lovely lunch and enjoyed a cup of hazelnut coffee (which I am ADDICTED to right now).

I left Mike at Panera to do whatever he wanted, and I headed to Target to do some shopping. I had a list, and I mostly stuck to it! It was nice to have a yummy cup of joe in hand and slowly make my way around the store. After purchasing my items, I headed back across the street to Panera, and sat with Mike a while. Then headed next door to Marshalls. I could get in a lot of trouble in this store!! I did find some great bargains, and a couple super finds. Including new beach towels for Jonah and myself- they have whales on them:)

Now Mike and I are home. Relaxing to the Olympics with our feet up. Mike cleaned the kitchen and started a load of laundry. He is so good to me:)

It's been a wonderful Saturday, and the day isn't even over yet!

8 months Preggo Picture~

Here we are, 8 months pregnant! Jonah is definitely making a statement, pushing out more and more! We continue to be thankful for my good health and for Jonah's healthy development. And we are excited for what this new stage in life brings, God has been so faithful to provide us with all our needs and many of our wants. And I am continually grateful for what a wonderful man I have married. Who else would clean the kitchen, make me dinner, and run out on my every whim to pick up miscellaneous items!

This week has lots of exciting events happening. For starters, LOST is on Tuesday night, I will be doing some serious packing this week, the 2010 Winter Olympics start on Friday, and the best part of all: Jessie is throwing me a shower on Saturday! So, exciting things to come:)

I know a lot of people think that their husbands are the best. But, mine really is. After a day apart, for various reasons, we spent the afternoon together on the couch watching The West Wing. But, poor Mike had a splitting headache, so he wasn't enjoying his Saturday very much. Then we figured out, he hadn't had any coffee today, (he usually tops the day off with about 4 to5 cups of coffee), and we decided to try some caffeine! It did the trick, and within 30 minutes he felt back to himself. Well, we are now lounging around the evening, I was flipping channels and Mike was reading. Waffles started to sound really good to me. The kind with whipped cream and strawberries and yummy syrup. At the mere mention of my food craving, Mike said I'll run to the store for the whipped cream and strawberries!!! And he did, without hesitation. That is why my husband is the best spouse in the entire world, because, among the other endless reasons, he went out at 8pm to satisfy my preggo whim;) And, those waffles were pretty dang good:)

Bagel Ego...

Last night was the Season Premiere of LOST! And in true preggo fashion, I fell asleep at 1015 and can't remember what happened after that! SO, guess we will be re-watching that tonight. It's nice to have our favorite show on TV again, something to live for on a Tuesday night....
So, this morning, Mike and I were pretty tired and didn't want to leave the flannel goodness of our bed, but work called and alas we got up. We did however, promise ourselves a midweek treat at Brugger's Bagels. Our favorite breakfast place is just minutes from our house, and they make the bagels right in front of you, then slather a thick slab of cream cheese on top of a crusty and chewy bagel. Yummmm. Today though, we walked up to the counter and the manager said to us, "Good Morning, you want your regular?" I thought I had died and gone to heaven. She new me, and she new my bagel preference. Life doesn't get much better than this. Nevermind the fact that Mike chose a new bagel preference today, she even remembered that I wanted mine double toasted. It was perfect. Then we tried to pay, and alas the lady in front of us counted out her tab in nickels, pennies, and dimes. So what if that took a little bit of the wind from my sails, by the time we paid and I now had my happy bagel and a hot cup of hazelnut joe, my ego being fully inflated, we strolled out to the car and off to school, and we just knew it would be a fabulous day!

Don't you wish there was an application from your Iphone that would magically pack you up when you are moving. Or even better the little singing mice from Cinderella could come do it and entertain you too! Oh well, those things don't exist, so I guess I need to keep grabbing boxes and packing them up!
This weekend we spent several hours catching up on Season 5 of LOST. We needed a refresher before the big season premiere, which is on February 2, Groundhog Day. Mike thinks this plays some integral part in the plot, because it is on Groundhog Day. Not sure how I feel about that! But, we finished the whole season last night, and we now must wait the tortuous week between now and then to see if the whole island is blown up, if the Oceanic crew all land back in San Francisco, and best of all- whose eye was seen at the end of season five?! Oh how will we get thru the next week!!!
I am trying to schedule all kinds of things over the course of the next 10 weeks to keep me busy! Really, if I can just get to the 17th of March, I'll be happy. That's when my wonderful Momma is coming up to help me make sense of our new apartment and be here for the birth of Jonah! I will have many delightful weeks with her all to myself, well and Mike too:)

Well, first things first. Here's to the third trimester!
Jonah is now 29 weeks, and all looks good:) We go to the Doc's in the morning for our normal checkup, and Lord willing, we will just keep pluggin along! We are thinking about changing his name to Goliath! Because he keeps getting bigger and bigger and I'm not sure there is anywhere else to go!

We are slowly getting settled back into life here in Boston. After a delightful and relaxing trip to OH for Christmas, we found ourselves rather excited about what we have to look forward to in the next 3 months! But, before we jump into all those wonderful things- here's a rundown of our trip!
We arrived at 10:30pm on December 23rd! Oh how I love the look of Dayton, OH from a plane. There is something about seeing the land you grew up in, and returning to it that makes me misty eyed, that and all my preggo hormones:) Both of our families showed up to welcome us at the airport, and we were delighted to see them! Mike and I drove home with my fam, and made a pitstop at Steak and Shake for some late-night burgers. Then once at Eagle Manor, we talked until late into the night and just enjoyed being together. How thankful for family we are. After getting a few hours sleep, we awakened Christmas Eve Morning to the smell of baking biscuits, coffee ham, fried eggs, and homemade cinnamon rolls. Delicious! Curt, Christy and the kids joined us for a royal Reno Christmas, and we watched the kids excitedly open their presents! My favorite part was the stockings. In my family we pick names in October, and it's a secret who has your name:) So, it's a big surprise on Christmas morning!
Christmas Day we spent celebrating with the Ham Fam. It was wonderful to continue the traditions of Advent and family breakfast, it's amazing how much you look forward to those things. The Wings joined us in the afternoon for some present opening, and the kids didn't disappoint:) It's so fun watching their smiling faces. Uncle Scott and Aunt Wendy joined us for dinner, with a special surprise- Bubba popped up from Florida to surprise Uncle Chris, and it was a wonderful Christmas blessing for the rest of us as well. I got to spend some serious cuddle time with Reagy Roo, which did my heart good.
The next days were filled with family, friends and a baby shower! My wonderful sis-in-law and MIL thru me an amazing shower just a few days after Christmas. Our guests were so generous and made me feel so much better about having some necessities for Jonah when he arrives. My favorite moment of the evening was when Rachel passed out cards to everyone with specific prayer requests on them, to pray for while we wait for Jonah to come. What an unexpected blessing! I am so thankful!
One of our favorite moments of the holidays was spending some time with our dear friends, the Brotherhood. The whole gang got together at Jeffy's abode and played the Name Game until we couldn't laugh anymore- what a great memory. We are so thankful for them, and all the support and love they provide for us!
Well, we are looking forward with baited breath, to the biggest event of 2010 for us! The birth of Jonah Michael! I had an appointment with my OB this week, and she said there is only about 9 weeks left until the event could start happening! Oh my! We have much to accomplish before then, so we are hoping and praying God continues to lead and direct our every step!

Mike and I are snowed in on this blustery Sunday! We got about 4" overnight, and are expected to get about 6 more inches:) WONDERFUL!!!! So, we are waiting it out and eating warm blueberry muffins and Joe's Choice coffee (thanks Daddy). You gotta love New England, they close everything down for a light dusting of snow:) Love it!

So much has happened over the course of the last month that I don't know where to start!

November brought us the Ham Fam Reunion (http://www.hamfamreunion2009.blogspot.com/) and almost more fun than 4 days could handle! Instead of the normal 6-8 hours it takes us to get to PA, our trip down cost us 9.5 hours! So, needless to say, Mike, Jonah and myself were VERY Thankful to be at the hotel. It was a joy to spend the holiday with my in-laws,, and especially to get to love on Reagy-Roo and Giddy Gumdrop:) We are so blessed that Rach and Jason keep our spirit alive in their hearts, even when we can't see them as often as we like. Reagan lost no time in loving on her Uncle Michael, and he ate up every minute.

We are winding down the first half of the school year, and counting the days until we leave for Ohio. I like to make a top ten list every year of Christmas memories I am hoping to make. So, I thought I'd start that now. In no particular order.....
#10. Christmas morning with Mom and Col. Dad. I love that we all arrive and immediately head for the coffee pot and fill our happy snowmen mugs with the delicious seasonal blend. Then proceed into the living room for Advent, where we spend time praying and thanking God for his most precious gift.
#9 Watching the kids open Christmas presents, and the joy on their faces over the smallest things.
#8 Eating Momma's Christmas Eve breakfast and Christmas dinner, delicious!
#7 Getting to spend time with my sister. I miss her so much
#6 Dancing with Abby and Caleb in Christmas Eve.
#5 Watching my Dad open his stocking (which doesn't mean that I have your name, Daddy)
#4 Dancing with Uncle Chris, and then having the whole family join in.
#3 Laying in front of the fireplace at the Ham Fam and looking for stuff in the I Spy books, while Glory begs to be played with:)
#2 Giving gifts to everyone
#1 Watching Michael take everything in. My favorite part of Christmas, I hope Jonah inherits his joy for the season:)

Hope this special season is filled with moments of joy for all of you. We hope you take time to focus on the reason for the season, and celebrate the awesome gift that was given to us on that Christmas so long ago. Merry Christmas!

Mike and I are off to celebrate Thanksgiving with his fam in Pennsylvania this holiday. We are looking forward to spending some much needed time with his Mom and Dad and sisters. Our hope and prayer is that you have a wonderful thanksgiving holiday and spend some time reflecting on all the blessing God has given us. At the top of our list this year is our new addition, Jonah, however everything else pales in comparison to the incredible gift, of God's sacrificial love for us!

Momma's November Visit!

Mike and I loved having my Mom here! She is so much fun, and so chill. We did a lot of nothing and just enjoyed being with each other! The highlight was that she got to see little Jonah announce his presence to the world, and then we went gender specific shopping! I never thought I'd get to do that with Mom, seeing as we live 13 hours apart, just another blessing from God.
Among other things we ate dinner at the Hart House, Spent an afternoon in Boston and went shopping! Can't wait for your next trip Mom! Thanks for coming, you are a blessing.

Well only 24 hours from now we will know if our baby is a man-cub or a little girl! But the best news of all for today is that my Mom is flying in tonight!! At 6:50 pm, and not a minute later, we will be picking her up from BWI and enjoying 9 blissful days with her! It will be so much fun to have her here, especially for the big debut of her grandchild's gender! We have a long list of people to call tomorrow regarding what the baby is, but I'm sure I'll be posting it here and on Facebook tomorrow night as well!

Last night Mike and I did something totally cool! We skyped with my parents all the way in Ohio! It was really neat, they got to see my growing belly and I got to show them the sugar cookies I had decorated! Can't wait until we can get it set up with the rest of the fam! Hopefully, we can get Becca online tonight and chat with her.
We did a whole lot of nothing this weekend. Thankfully, I didn't end up working at the hospital on Saturday, and I got the kitchen cleaned! We managed to munch on things around the house, and resisted the urge to eat out! Friday night we had appetizers between naps and channel surfing, Saturday brought more naps while watching the Dirty Dozen on AMC- and Sunday brought surprises of its own with a snow-fall! Thanks to the Durfee's we didn't have to make lunch, we enjoyed Dave's famous Corned Beef, and then they creamed us in a game of Euker.
All in all, a great weekend.

After an exhausting week at work, Mike and I crashed last night and fell asleep at 8:00pm! Well, I fell asleep and stayed asleep, Mike was awake the next time I remember getting back to reality, around 11pm. I woke up this morning feeling refreshed at 8am, what a feeling! Mike slept in until 10:00, and I made a big breakfast of bacon, eggs, cheesy hashbrowns, and homemade biscuits! Mmm, all devoured while watching 2 of our favorite West Wing episodes:) It was pefection. And if that wasn't enough, I was supposed to work at the hospital today, and they cancelled me, so we took a 2 hour nap! Life is good.
Now we are comfy on the couch, watching the Cosby Show, and getting our dose of comedy for the day!
In other news- my sweet niece, Reagy-Roo turned 2 today! I don't know where the time went, What a precious child, we are so thankful for her life! And that we get the honor of being a part of it! We love you Reagy! Happy birthday:)

Cooking, Cooking and Baking

So, I stumbled upon this awesome blog, http://www.onceamonthmom.com/ - and I was inspired to try some freezer cooking and baking. You see, Mike and I are really bad at breakfast foods. Our breakfast usually consists of a bacon sandwich or, toast, or a grilled cheese. Yes, I know you are surprised, but for some reason, breakfast is just not something that comes easily to us! So, I decided to nip this in the bud:) I also seem to have a problem making dinner every night, and therefore we have no leftovers for lunch, and we end up eating out, because Mike can't say no to me! So, armed with onceamonthmom.com's recipes by my side- I started as soon as I got home at 5pm, and by 6:15 I had completed 3- 8x8 pans of noodle casserole and 4- 8x8 pans of Mexican Cornbread Casserole! Most went in the freezer for dinners later in the month! I thought this is great, but I need to sit down, so I took a little break and then felt good enough to make breakfast food! I made 12 Hashbrown pancakes, 6 egg-muffins and a batch of homemade granola, all in about an hour! I am feeling pretty good this morning, and I still have room in my freezer for more! So, needless to say- I am exstatic about my new find online and blessed by this godly woman's willingness to serve those around her with complete menus and easy instructions! We spend less on our grocery bill, and we have groceries for the whole month! Yeah!!!

Another weekend, another week down. We celebrated last night, with our friends Eileen and Joe who found out they are preggo, recently! 4 huge plates of Italian food later, we had plenty of leftovers and had talked a lot, so we headed home, feel right into bed- at 9:30pm. Oh yeah, we are wild on a Friday night:( Today we woke up at 9, and felt very rested. Now we are tucked in on the couch for an afternoon of Pecan coffee, Band of Brothers and relaxation, Thanks to Mike for cleaning up our very stinky kitchen. I owe him one!

Lazy Weekends...

Mike and I got up at the crack of dawn today, to join Jesse and Brent Boorsma at CBD, Christian Book Distributer, and soak up some deals! I guess this huge distributer opens its doors only 2 times a year to the public. What amazing deals we found! I can't list them here, because Christmas presents would be given away! But we had a great time, and then Jesse and I hit up the $5 bag sale at The Children's Orchard and scored some deals, I got mine for free (thanks to a giftcard:). Then we heased to Savers, our fav 2nd hand store, and I scored a Gap sweater for 5 bucks! Love it! So, it's been a day of deals. After arriving home, I hit the couch for a nap- and as usual, Mike let me sleep a lot longer than I wanted:) 2 hours later, I awakened to the sound of Halo, and saw Mike sitting Indian style in front of his favorite game.
It's been a delightfully lazy day of rain storms and after a bowl of alfredo (still not as good as Rachel's) we are playing a game of Scrabble while drinking tea and enjoying some Christmas music.

A new beginning...

Well, I am having some technical problems with the Blog, so I won't be able to post any pictures, until I get the figured out!
Anyway, Mike and I are into the 2nd week of school! We are really enjoying the new found fun of being on the exact same schedule:) I am loving my new job, and he is finding new challenges in this new school year!
My lack of blogging has partially been to our new schedule, and the fact that my days are no longer free! But, we had house guests right up until the day we started back to school! My fam came for a week, then it was off to NY city, a week later, Jeffy showed up and we spent a heavenly week with him. Then a few days later, Mike's fam came for a week long visit that took us right up to my first day of school!
Fun and jam packed summer! Right now we are relaxing with some homemade veggy soup and crackers and thinking about hitting the hay! Hope your weekend is enjoyable, and you are squeezing out the last bits of summer!

A City so nice, they named it twice....

Mike and I had the chance to go to New York city a couple weeks ago and stay in the heart of Manhattan. MVRCS sent Mike to an IB conference, and I got to tag along. We stayed 4 days, 3 nights, one of which I saw my birthday present- The Lion King on Broadway. If you ever have the chance to see this amazing show, don't pass it up, it is truely amazing.

Serendipity for Dinner, just like the movie, and some frozen hot chocolate! Thankfully I have a wonderful husband who lets me do my every whim, what other guy would go eat chick food for dinner:)

Central Park was breathtaking. You could spend days here alone!

Saks Fifth Avenue, anyone. I walked up and down 5th Avenue everyday, just looking at all the expensive and beautiful displays.
We wrapped up our visit with this amazing gift. Mike surprised me with the best seats in the house, what a breathtaking show!
